MISSING: Two Girls in Harlem, For the Second TimeBy Pia Monique Murray
There is a community organized effort to search for two teenage girls, Queen Sutherland of Harlem and Jannelle Johnson of Brooklyn, who have been missing since Monday, August 1. The girls who are cousins and best friends were last seen in Sutherland’s apartment around 9:00 p.m. Harlem residents have been supported by community organizations like Brooklyn’s Black Women’s Blueprint (BWB) to search for the girls as there has been little support from local police. It is possible that local officials and publications are reluctant to widely publicize this issue because the girls previously disappeared in 2009. On BWB’s Facebook page created to mobilize volunteers Sutherland’s former teacher made a plea, “Queen was my student earlier this year... my heart is heavy. So much potential... our girls are really starved for positive attention. They need [our] attention now. PLEASE put your prayers and and [eyes] out for these girls!!!”
#Sutherland is 14 years old and described as 4-foot-11-inches tall and weighing 100 pounds. She was last seen with black and blond braids, wearing an orange t-shirt, blue jeans and neon green and gray sneakers. Johnson is 13 years old and described as 5-foot-6-inches tall and weighing 115 lbs. She has long black hair that is often in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with the words “Don't Hate Me Because I'm Pretty” and purple pants, and white and purple Airmax sneakers.
If you have any information about the girls’ whereabouts please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or send their tips or text 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
